All Five Star For The India-Bound VW Tiguan In Euro NCAP Crash Test

The second-generation Volkswagen Tiguan has been awarded the all five stars in the Euro NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) crash test in Europe. The Euro NCAP has been considered as the most standard benchmark for vehicle safety in Europe since 1997 and the conditions of the crash test have been revised this year by the organization to made the test even tougher than before.

Let’s check out the NCAP safety test through which the Volkswagen Tiguan passed:

  • Frontal crash into an aluminium barrier at 64 kmph and forty percent overlap.
  • Frontal crash at 50 kmph into a rigid barrier with hundred overlap.
  • Side impact at 32 kmph.
  • Protection against whiplash in the event of a rear-end collision.
  • Automatic emergency braking to avoid collision with vehicles and pedestrians.

The overall 5-star safety rating has been collected from the results of the following sub-sections:

  • Occupants safety for adult - 96%
  • Child protection - 84 %
  • Pedestrian protection - 72%
  • Safety assistance - 69%

 

Let’s have a look at the safety package of Tiguan, the safety bag is loaded with seven airbags - the driver and the front passenger (including a knee airbag for the driver) and a head airbag system for the front and rear occupants (including side airbag). The technology-wise safety features include ESC (Electronic Stability Control) with countersteer assistance, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with brake assistance, Post-Collision Braking System, and a tyre pressure indicator.

Though, the first generation Volkswagen Tiguan had never made its way to the Indian market, but this second generation model will surely touch the showroom floors in the country. Having showcased at Delhi Auto Expo in February this year, the Volkswagen has officially announced that the launch of Tiguan in India will take place during this fiscal year. This new Tiguan will be locally assembled at Volkswagen group plant in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.
