Click and Leak: Ducati Supersport S From World Ducati Week 2016

This is not the first time when Ducati showed a bit of extra hospitality to its enthusiasts who attended the World Ducati Week (WDW) at Misano. It was started back in 2014 when the brand allowed only the hordes of Ducatisti at WDW to have an exclusive look at the Scrambler ahead of its official reveal.

And now it happened again, A bike, codenamed as ‘Project 1312’ was showcased inside a covered box, exclusively for Ducati fans who were attending the WDW, no camera or camera phones were allowed inside.

Along with the tight security, Ducati tried its best not to spoil the climax of its upcoming project, but someone managed to click and leak the all new street-oriented motorcycle, codenamed as ‘Project 1312’. It is rumoured that this all new motorcycle is to be named as the 939 Supersport, and will be available in variants - Supersport and Supersport S. The notable differences between these two variants are of Öhlins suspension at the front and the rear, and a removable rear seat cowl.

In an interview organised by MCN, the product manager of Project 1312, Paolo Quattrino said that the new supersport is much more than a concept and will arrive in 2017.

Quattrino said, “The engine is tuned to be really, really smooth because it’s a sportsbike with road focused performance. The bike is brand new, it’s just the frame that comes from XDiavel and Monster trellis frame. There are some components used on other bikes but otherwise, it’s a completely new bike. The Supersport is not an entry-level sportsbike. That would be a bike for beginners, this is not that. This is a sportsbike designed for the road.”

Further adding more, “The dash is completely new with new functionality, and is ready for the Ducati multimedia system, the same as on Multistrada. The headlamp shape is completely new, the shape was inspired by Panigale but the headlamp has daytime running lights. The exhaust is new as well as the complete fairing.”

In terms of engine, the upcoming will be powered by the same 939 cc powertrain that is being used in the Hypermotard 939, but this time, it is heavily tuned to meet the real purpose of its creation. While the other latest technology features remain same as we see on other Ducatis such as - 3-rider modes, 8-level traction control and Ducati multimedia system featured cluster.

The new road-focused Supersport is expected to make its official debut at 2016 EICMA motorcycle show and would be launched sometime in 2017. And a good news for Indian Ducati enthusiasts, both the new models will eventually touch the Indian soil officially.
