Audi has confirmed that the 2016 Audi A5 will makes its global debut on June 2 this year at an event organized in Ingolstadt, Germany. The 2nd generation Audi A5 is based on the B9 Audi A4, which is also in its way to put on sales in the international market. To be clear, this coupe will be based on the sedan sibling’s MLB Evo platform, which is meant to reduce its weight by 120 kg and keeping it lighter. Also, the dimension of the 2016 A5 is likely to get increased, similarly what happened with the new A4. The automaker announced the call out for the standard model with the plans of launching the new S5 coupe soon.
However, we don’t have much details about the A5 model, as it will be revealed with the launch itself. But, the recent images taken from the last years event, where the production ready A5 coupe was projected, reveal some insights about the car. We might get to see some visual tweaks with the upcoming model. It may also get the theme of the two-door A4 sedan model. The interior shall be getting some treatment exactly similar to the A4.
As far as the power mill is concerned, the new A5 coupe could be powered with a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder V6 engine, replacing the current version eight-speed automatic transmission for a new seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. A5 is likely to continue with the six-speed manual transmission on the base variant. The front-wheel drive will be provided as standard and the Quattro all-wheel drive will be available with the top trims.
The dates have been rescheduled, as the automaker was planning to launch some of its convertible models by April this year but as per the current situation, the S5 hardtop will be seen by July this year. so, we'd expect the new convertible model make debut by sometime in July. Post launch, the 2016 Audi A5 will be kept along the prominent siblings such as S5, S5 Convertible, S5 Sportback, RS5, A5 Convertible and A5 Sportback models.
