Honda is expected to launch the facelift update of its flagship sedan Honda City in the February this year, the updated version was earlier reported to be launched in January. Receiving a huge demand, dealerships in Delhi have started accepting bookings for the upcoming updated model. However, Honda may announce official bookings by the last week of this month. So this can be the great time to buy the outgoing City model when the dealers are clearing the remaining stock by offering huge discounts on it.
Although the updates may be just limited to the cosmetics, it is important for the brand to keep the water boil since City is one of the best selling cars in C-Segment.
It seems the Japanese carmaker is moving a step ahead of its rival, Maruti Suzuki. Taking a look at the past few years’ sales record, it was Ciaz who outsold the City in 2016 by a number of 5000-odd units.
If some reports are to be believed, Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for the Ciaz facelift that is likely to hit the market by April 2017.
Although, the 2017 Honda City has already spotted in the country during an add-shot.
Recently, the MY2017 City was launched in Thailand on January 12th and the spy shots reveal that aesthetically the India-spec 2017 City will be identical to that of the Thailand version. Exterior updates are what the teaser images featured, the new LED projector headlamps underlined by the LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lights), larger grille with chrome garnish and a revised up-front bumper. On the sides, the new 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheel will surely hold your attention for a while. The highlights at the rear include LED taillamps, boot mounted spoiler with integrated high-end brake light and a newly designed bumper with faux air dams.
Moreover, the other noteworthy updates on the Thai-spec 2017 Honda City include a black dashboard, an all new smart infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and a mobile morning app. All the similar equipment are also likely to be carried out on the India-spec 2017 City.
The info-system will also be developed to recognise Indian-accent based voice commands for the navigation system. Other details are six airbags as a standard on the range-topping version, leather seats and a soft touch dual-tone dashboard.
As we have mentioned earlier, the new City is a facelift update and the changes will be limited to the aesthetics, under the hood, it will remain similar to that of the outgoing model. The India-bound MY2017 City will continue to get power from a 1.5-litre petrol powerhouse and a 1.5-litre diesel-powered mill. Transmission duties will be handled by either a BR-V new borrowed 6-speed manual gearbox as standard or an optional CVT gearbox exclusively for the petrol powered mill.
