Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. India has made a recent announcement to start the production at its Chennai plant. The manufacturing plant in Chennai is almost ready and moreover, the announcement includes that the newly launched Alpha Scooter will be the first to get manufactured on the plant. The Chennai plant is the biggest manufacturing plant of the Yamaha.
The Alpha Scooter was launched at the Delhi Auto Expo, 2014, which was held in the month of February. Till now, the Alpha scooter was being manufactured at the Surajpur plant, which is located at Greater Noida and as soon as the Chennai plant will get started manufacturing two-wheelers, they will be going to produce the 113cc scooter.
Talking about the specification, the Alpha scooter gets its power from a four-stroke, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine with an engine displacement of 113cc. The peak power attained by the engine is 7BHP @ 7,500 RPM along with 8Nm of torque @ 5000 RPM. By keeping in mind the riding posture of the rider and the comfortable space given to the scooter, the company has designed the model. In compliance with performance, the Alpha Scooter seems to be a direct competitor of the highest seller, 'Honda Activa'. Although, Yamaha's 110cc scooter is not even touching 2-3% of sales in comparison of Activa. Hence, by seeing the market situation, the company might launch some more variants of Alpha Scooter.
Currently, the FZ Series of motorcycles is doing well in terms of sales, as the manufacturer added a Blue Core Technology engine to make to more fuel-efficient upto 14 percent. The CEO and managing Director of Yamaha Motor India Sales, Masaki Asano, "In September-October, we will talk about future models and the ones that will be made in North and South India, and whether they will be old or new models, We do hope and want an all-women line here but this is not yet fixed as manufacturing is taken up by a different company. But we are focused on women, so maybe the same concept will be followed at Chennai."
Now, let's see whether the new plans of Yamaha Motor India will be able to increase the sales of the alpha Scooter or not?
