Aprilia SR150 Race Edition Launched in India at INR 70,288 (Ex-showroom, Mumbai)

It was hardly six months ago when Piaggio owned Italian Motorcycle firm Aprilia launched its very first scooter in India, the SR150. Loaded with best-in-class features, sharp looks and a powerful engine, the much affordable scooter has garnered a decent sales number. Expanding this SR range, the manufacturer has now introduced a new “Race Edition” here in the country, with price starts at INR 70,288 (Ex-showroom, Mumbai).

Stefano Pelle, Managing Director and CEO, Piaggio Vehicles Private said, “The great response we got when we introduced the SR150 in India last year gave us the confidence that the market is now ripe for change. The youth of India is keen to explore the new and this augurs well for a brand like ours which thrives on building different categories in every market that we operate in. We hope that the SR150 RACE brings our patrons even closer to the racy appeal they long for in their daily rides and changes, yet again, the way India purchases its 2-wheelers.”

Talking about the design first, it is more or less similar to that of the regular one except some subtle cosmetic tweaks. What’s the interesting thing is, the SR150 Race Edition gets covered in Italian flag livery similar to the one seen on Aprilia's MotoGP machine, the RSGP. Apart from this, it gets grey, red and green body graphics along with the gold colored front brake caliper and red painted alloy wheels.

The Aprilia SR150 Race Edition sports the same powertrain as on the Aprilia SR150, i.e., a 154.4cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. Mated to a CVT transmission, the engine is capable enough of propelling the unit with a power of 10.4 hp with an 11.5 Nm of peak torque. The braking duties are carried out by a 220mm disc up front and 140mm drum at the rear. For suspension, it has been offered with telescopic forks up front and at the rear a single-sided coil spring.

Further adding he said, "Our philosophy as a company is to do things differently. This is clearly evident from our range of offerings in India and the fact that we have been fairly successful in winning the patronage of our esteemed customers. To this end, we have priced the SR 150 Race at a point which makes it appeal to the youth who are driven by quality and differentiation in all their adventures. We hope that the SR 150 Race meets with the same success as the SR 150 and we look forward to further consolidating Aprilia's crossover sport-scooter proposition in the country."
