Bangalore based start-up Ather Energy has introduced its most awaited electric scooter offering, the Ather 340 in India. It is a futuristic model loaded with a host of cutting-edge technology. However, to own this EV you have to spend a huge amount of above INR 1 lakh that makes it most expensive scooter available in the Indian biking industry. In the segment, the Ather 340 will see a face-off with the existing Okinawa Praise that is pretty affordable and priced around petrol powered scooters. Here is a comparison between the Ather 340 and the Okinawa Praise on write-down basis.
Design:
In terms of design, the Ather 340 is a futuristic model that is sharp in styling yet wear minimal designing. The white paintwork along with green accents seems decent with modern touches. The scooter houses a large LED headlamp at the front apron while the turn indicator are studded in the handlebar. The rear of the scooter is also embellished with an LED tail lamp which is flanked by turn signals.
On the other hand, the Okinawa Praise borrows styling from the maxi-scooters. At the front, the scooter gets an aggressively styled LED headlamp with LED DRLs. the turn indicators are positioned into the steering unit. Furthermore, there is an option of a pillion backrest. The company offers a range of vivid colours including purple, golden and blue.

Features:
The Ather 340 is a bundle of features which includes a 7-inch touchscreen display which besides showcasing ride related information also displays navigation, vehicle diagnostics, and over-the-air updates. Moreover, you can track nearest charging station and can easily park vehicle easily with parking assist function and reverse mode. The Ather 340 offers smartphone connectivity via an app which will notify for battery charge status and provide tips for improving the scooter’s overall performance. The suspension setup on the 340 comprises telescopic forks for the front and a monoshock at the rear. Whereas, a single disc up front and a rear disc in association with a CBS take care of braking duties.
In contrary to Ather 340, the Okinawa Praise gets fewer features. The onboard features include a side-stand indicator, Anti-theft sensor, keyless entry and find my scooter. The Praise gets mounted on telescopic forks at the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear for suspension ease. The deceleration on the scooter is handled by dual disc setup at the front and a disc brake at the rear. The Electronic-Assisted Braking System (E-ABS) assist braking for a precise outcome. The Praise is also furnished with an LCD screen that is much easier to understand as opposed to the Ather 340.
Powertrain:
The Ather S340 propels via a brushless DC motor that’s powered by a 2.2kWh lithium-ion battery. The motor is rated to churn out 6.7bhp and 20Nm of torque that makes the scooter possible to attain the top speed of 72kmph. In a single charge, the scooter can travel the range of 60kms. The battery takes one hour to charge up to 80 per cent.

On the other hand, Okinawa Praise gets propelling power from a 72V/45Ah lithium-ion battery. It takes one hour for a full charge and returns the travel range of 170-200kms. The Praise allows rider for different speed limits with the offered range of modes. It gets three modes-Economy, Sport and Turbo. The Economy mode restricts scooters to 35kmph. With the Sports mode, the scooters go to 65kmph speed. Whereas, at the turbo mode, the scooter achieves the top speed of 75kmph. The Praise is slightly faster than the Ather 340.
Price:
Priced at INR 1.09 lakhs (on-road), the Ather 340 gets the tag of the most expensive electric scooter in Indian EVs market. The Okinawa Praise is available at INR Rs 66,232 (on-road) that is slightly more than half of Ather 340 asking price and makes it an affordable offering available.
