Bajaj Dominar 400 that was introduced in Indian motoring industry back in December 2016. Post witnessing several updates is going to be more improved than earlier. Yes, a new Dominar variant which will feature prominent equipment shared from the KTM Duke 390, is likely to hit the ground soon in coming weeks.
The Dominar that is a touring vehicle, was introduced as a direct rival against the segment leader Royal Enfield Classic 350. Initially priced at the lowest asking of INR 1.36 lakhs, the Dominar was aimed to collect an average sale of 10,000 units per month. Altogether, the vehicle was able to attain such milestone with the furnished fitments like FI, digital instrument cluster, ABS and more.
Alongside, the automaker timely invested a good amount on TV commercials, though the Dominar hardly manages to roll out an average of 2000 units per months. And several times, this count indexed below 1000 units that are no less than the disaster for the product launched with an aim of dispatching 10,000 units every month.
With this new variant, the automaker wants to try once more. Maybe this time, the Dominar get succeeded in achieving the set goals of 10,000 units sales per month. Improved than the outgoing model, the new Dominar which recently spied in Leh will feature the USD front forks borrowed from the KTM Duke 390. In addition to this, the new customers will see the availability of a new exhaust setup with twin canister, the next-gen instrument console for various ride related information.
While, beneath the fuel tank, the motorcycle will continue to get the power from the similar 373.3 cc, single cylinder, liquid cooled engine of the KTM 390 Duke. But the presence of new exhaust system is suggesting sorts of refinement to the engine unit owing to new upcoming BS6 norms. Paired to a six-speed gearbox, the mill is capable of churning out the maximum power of 35 PS at 8,000 rpm along with 35 Nm torque at 6,500 rpm.
Some sorts of other advanced features like DOHC system, ride by wire and updated slipper clutch could also be seen on the new trim. All these components are being offered with the ongoing Duke 390.
For such additions, we could see the price tag around INR 15-20,000 premium over the outgoing ABS variant that costs INR 1.62 lakh. Will be priced around INR 1.8 lakh ex-sh, the 2019 Dominar will be cheaper from its direct rival. Though in terms of provided specs, it will go into competition with the likes of newly introduced BMW G310R, that priced around double of the Dominar.
