BMW has launched the sDrive variant of the M Sport. Unlike the ‘xDrive’ which is an all-wheel-drive, the X1 sDrive20d M Sport is front-wheel driven. Interestingly the new SUV variant also gets cheaper by Rs 3 lakh. The BMW xDrive20d M Sport has been introduced with a price tag of Rs 41.50 lakh (ex-showroom India). Here’s more on what the sDrive20d M Sport has to offer in comparison with its xDrive sibling.
The Similarities
Power: Taking a cue from the xDrive, the sDrive too gets power from the same 2.0-litre diesel engine. The engine comes coupled to a ZF-made 8-speed automatic transmission. It delivers 190PS of maximum power and 400 Nm of peak torque.
Design: The new sDrive inherits the design and features of the M Sport. Both the front and all-wheel drives sport the M Sport signature design features like:
The Inside: On the inside, there is little to differentiate between the two. The sDrive cabin everything that you could find on the xDrive. These include:
Safety: The sDrive20d M Sport scores high on safety features. Like the xDrive it comes fitted with traction control, cornering brake control, six airbags, ABS, dynamic stability control, tire pressure monitoring system, run-flat tires and Isofix child seat anchors.
For a more affordable price tag, the sDrive parts with the heads-up display and the 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. In its place the premium front-wheel-drive sports a smaller 6.5-inch touchscreen unit that does support Apple CarPlay.
When pitted against the AWD xDrive, the 2WD sDrive20d appears to be an all-profit option when the commutes are limited to the well-maintained city roads. If you are looking for an all-terrain option on an M Sport variant, consider spending the extra 3 lakhs and buying the AWD. Otherwise, the new sDrive20d M Sport will cater to all your city drive needs and even more at times.
