BMW Motorrad, to pay the tribute to its legendary 1936 BMW R5 model on its 80th anniversary, recently unveiled a custom made heritage-inspired motorcycle at the annual Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2016 in northern Italy. The custom built bike retain the same nomenclature and being called BMW Motorrad R5 Hommage.
Mechanically, the RS Hommage is having the same engine of the original RS model which got a serious damage while being used in a race. The motorcycle enthusiast Sebastian Gutsch further restored the bike. The 500cc air-cooled boxer twin engine with a new supercharger aid gives the power output of 26 bhp to propel the bike.

The custom bike builders Ronny and Benny Noren crafted this RS Hommage on the basis of produced design sketches from the German team. The respected builders uniquely created the frame, fuel tank and the rear fender of the bike to gave it a modern look altogether with the engine components like valve cover, breastplate that has been machined from the billet aluminium etc.
The modern interpretation is furnished with modern brakes, cutting edge suspension setup and a peerless fitting of brake and clutch levers onto the outside ends of the handlebars.
Head of design at BMW Motorrad, Edgar Heinrich said, “The R5 was a masterpiece at its debut. The clarity of its lines and the elegance of the proportions gave the machine a distinct profile and set it apart from the competing field of motorcycles. This is one of the most beautiful motorcycles in the history of BMW.”
BMW’s Head of Vehicle Design and Creative Director Heritage BMW Motorrad Ola Stenegard added: “It is easy to design a motorcycle with a lot of complexity. But it’s very complex to design simplicity into a machine. We have transported the clarity and the aesthetic appeal of the R5 to the present day. This is a respectful combination of old school and high-tech with a dash of high performance.”
The R5 Hommage is the part of the BMW Motorrad 100 years completion celebrations all around the world since it foundation in the motoring world.
