Dehradun Cops Removes Name Plates with Political | Government Position, Issues Challan

Dehradun Traffic Police issued fines and challans for different offences such as breaking of signals, overspeeding, drunk driving, using mobile phone, modified silencer, breaking stipulation of road usage, and commercial vehicle/overloading in the month of May 2018. 4,805 vehicles were fined for unauthorised nameplates and stickers on vehicles. Altogether, those number plates were removed from the vehicle immediately.

Within the first two weeks of May month, Dehradun Traffic Police penalized 5649 vehicles under the same initiative. This month removal of unauthorised name plates displaying state symbols or designations were on Uttarakhand Police’ priority. Uttarakhand Police’ drive caught 3207 two wheelers and 2518 four wheelers with the illegal number plates across all 13 districts. Along with 100 vehicles with illegal nameplates or a retro silencer were seized under the Motor Vehicles Act and get penalized.

In this drive most illegal number plate defaulters were found in Dehradun. It was 625 two-wheelers, 446 four wheelers of all. Out of which 407 nameplates were removed, 1245 challans issued, and 64 vehicles seized. Under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police, Traffic, Dehradun, CPU unit and traffic police undertook this drive.

The campaign that started from 01.05.2018 remained successful in seizing unauthorized pallet / Seal / symbols, within the 15 days intensive checking. Besides, the police official did the checking, advising, removed nameplates and stickers and confiscated them. Altogether, they advised offenders that writing of the department’s name or designation on private vehicles is illegal and prohibited. Nowadays, these status symbols are trendy and being used widely. But they violate provisions under Motor Vehicle Act. This one-month long campaign will continue till the last day of the month.

With this kind of initiative, the day is not so far when such displays stop. Mostly politicians and state department workers used such fancy number plates on private vehicles for showing off their power and designation.
