Ducati Unveils Desmosedici Stradale engine

Ducati, an Italian marque begins a new era with the introduction of a new Desmosedici Stradale engine. The new 90-degree V4 engine is said to be a ‘road-going iteration’ of the Desmosedici GP engine from its MotoGP racing monsters.

Ducati lineup, after the dismissal of its elder sibling, the 1299 Panigale only kept the lower version of the moniker, the 959 Panigale. The Ducati Desmosedici Stradale with the displacement of 1103 cc will be the replacement of Panigale 1299 on the forthcoming, the Panigale V4. This extremely compact 90-degree V4 configuration, the Desmosedici Stradale not only allows the low mass centralization but also churn out the maximum power of 210bhp and 120Nm of torque.

This newly developed Desmosedici Stradale shares the 81mm cylinder from the Desmosedici GP and has increased stroke from the 48.5mm to 53.5mm. That offers the displacement of 1103cc. The ‘big-bang’ firing order of 0-90-290-380 is also borrowed from the race bike that fires two set of V-twin motors in the V4 engine. The firing order also carries forwarded its unique exhaust note to the Desmosedici Stradale. The employment of two crankpins which are placed at a 70-degree angle not only provides a perfectly balanced architecture but also ended the need of power-robbing balancing shafts.

Other than this, the crankshaft on the Desmosedici Stradale is as similar as the Ducati bikes, the counter rotating type, that reduces the overall gyroscopic effect. And, it resulted in rear wheel lift depreciation during braking, also it reduces the wheelie effect under hard acceleration and makes the bike more dynamic in nature.

Succeeding Ducati’s tradition, there will also be a superbike homologation ‘R’ version under 1000cc displacement. The superbike is likely to unveil next year and will rival with the contestants in the 2019 season of WSBK.
