Ford is planning to introduce three new models in India in the next nine months. One of these models is the new Ford Figo hatchback model. This car was launched in Brazil in September, 2014 with the name Ford Ka. It proved to be one of the best selling models in that country registering a high sales growth. Much like the Aspire model, this hatchback will also be manufactured at Ford's production facility in Sanand, Gujarat.
The mechanical configuration of this hatchback is expected to be borrowed from the Figo Aspire model. This would mean there could be one diesel and two petrol variants in the lineup. The powertrain options include 1.5 litre and 1.2 litre Ti-VCT units and 1.5 litre TDCi unit. The petrol variant with 1.2 litre engine delivers 88 PS and 112 Nm torque while another one produces 112 PS and 136 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the diesel powertrain generates maximum output of 100 PS and 215 Nm. The power will be transmitted to the wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox.
The Ford Ka model which is currently being sold in Brazil is equipped with high-tech features in its cabin. There is a power steering, a pearl white console, music system along with Buetooth and USB connectivity. An optional leather pack is also offered in which the seats, gear lever, handbrake and door inserts are covered in leather. Safety features like EBD, ABS and rear parking sensors are also employed in this model.
The new Figo hatchback is likely to compete with Maruti models like Celerio and Swift. The upcoming hatchback Tata Kite can also be a tough competitor for the new Figo. The launch of this new generation model is expected to be held during the festive season this year.
