According to a report in Economic Times, Ford India is planning to export the compact SUV-EcoSport, which proved to be a big hit when it was launched in 2013. If the headquarters approve this decision of Ford India, it will be the first car (belonging to a US based company) to be exported from India to US. The model is proposed to be launched in American car market by October 2017. Total 90,000 units of the car are likely to be exported in a year which is far more than the number of cars manufactured in India. Reportedly, the production will be carried out at Ford India's plant located at Chennai.
If this export strategy works out as planned by the company, it will lead to a lot of gainful opportunities not only for the company, but also for the component manufacturers of India who wish to export and expand their operations outside the country.
However, meeting the quality standards for American market can be really challenging for the suppliers. This might lead to a full transformation of the production process so as to cater to the needs of a completely different target audience.
