Hero Motocorp has officially revealed its first Indian hybrid scooter, named Hero Leap. This scooter would get manufactured at the company's Gurgaon based facility, according to the report. The hybrid scooter concept was first showcased by Hero Motocorp at the Auto Expo held in the year 2012. Earlier this year, the Leap scooter has made its second appearance in the grand disclosure of the Hero Motocorp's upcoming products. It is expected that the company will launch this hybrid two-wheeler in the upcoming Auto Expo which will be going to held in the year 2015.
The design of this electric scooter is pretty much simple, as it gets an LED lighting technology in a headlamp, a position lamp and in a stop lamp. Along with these features, you will get a small windshield too. It is featured with alloy wheels and it weighs up to 140Kg.
The hybrid scooter is powered by an electric motor, which runs on a lithium-ion battery. Along with the electric motor it also gets a 4-stroke 125cc petrol engine. It also has a fuel tank with a capacity of 3 liters. The scooter is driven by the electric motor and its battery gets recharged by the generator, i.e. 4-stroke engine. The reason behind calling it a hybrid scooter, it has given a range extender feature. Basically, the range extender feature will come into a picture, whenever the battery goes down and you cannot find a wall socket, this 3 liters tank capacity will help extend the range of the scooter. The electric traction motor generates 10.7BHP of power. The braking system of this scooter gets a powerful 240mm Brembo two-piston front disc brake.
Hero Mototcorp is planning to launch the hybrid scooter in international markets first like the U.S. and Europe, and then the company will bring the Hero Leap to India. Now here comes the pricing section, it is expected that the price of this hybrid scooter will range up to Rs 90,000 to Rs 1,00,000.
