Hero Motors Inks Pact With Ducati On Transmission Components Development

Hero Motors, part of the Hero Group, has signed a joint-venture with the popular Italian marque, Ducati on passed Thursday, as reported. In this collaboration, the transmission division of the Hero Motors, will manufacture gears for the next-gen Ducati motorcycles. Altogether, it will avail the Indian outfit to expand its kingdom and strengthen its roots in motorcycle/component manufacturing trade globally.

Mr Pankaj Munjal, CMD, Hero Group said, "This definitely is a big leap for us and we are quite excited about this new development. With this win we are not only forging a strong relationship with a global two wheeler leader but also reaffirming Hero's proficiency and expertise in specialized manufacturing We look forward to a long term association with our patrons."

Apart from this high-profile JV, Hero Motors is already in association with the two other leading brands BMW and Harley Davidson for granting them the high-end transmission components. On the road to success, this taken step may lift up the component maker on the list of European manufacturers as OEM suppliers. And the offered best quality system with zero ppm(parts per million) to its partners also solidify these expectations.

In order to achieve this, the company has already invested a huge amount of Rs 150 crore to establish world class infrastructure and looking forward to invest similar amount to scale up operations in the International market.

Keeping its eye to the European market, Hero has an operational office setup in Vienna, Austria, working from over a year. Moreover, a strategic joint venture is also in consideration with a European technocrat for designing, developing, prototyping, and testing modules. While the final phase the mass production will be done at the India based manufacturing facilities. It will keep the pricing in budget and competitive against its European rivals. The biggest share of almost 80 percent of the Hero’s business in the bike segment comes from the global manufacturers.
