Honda Brought up CR-V Diesel in India for Homologation

For a decade, Honda CR-V has been one of the most popular SUVs among the car lovers, however, the missing diesel engine option has been pulling its legs to sustain a real growth in the Indian auto segment. But it looks like, the manufacturer has finally cautioned and made up its mind to  bring up a diesel variant in the country. A single unit of CR-V diesel model has recently been imported into India for research and development process.

Thanks to Zauba import export data search that has informed us about this new white colored CR-V Diesel variant, which arrived here in the country on August 16 from the United Kingdom. On a closer look, you will get to see that the imported unit is powered by a 1.6-litre diesel motor. As far as the European-based model concerned, the same engine is available in two different states of tune - 118 Bhp of power and 300 Nm of torque and 158 Bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque. Furthermore, two transmission options namely a six-speed manual or 9-speed automatic units are mated with the engine.

Till date, Honda has kept its lips bound and hasn’t disclosed any information about the car in question, though, we may expect the SUV to reach here in India with the 118 bhp configuration. If all the assumptions turn out to be true, it will be embroiled in conflict with forthcoming Hyundai Tucson and the Jeep C-SUV, which is also slated to be launched in the country next year and will be displayed alongside the upcoming Wrangler and Cherokee.

If we talk about the CR-V petrol units, these are currently running in India under the nameplate of the fourth generation and available with two engine options - a 2.0-litre and a 2.4-litre four cylinder mills. While the former is packed with a 6-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic, the latter is only coupled with a 5-speed automatic unit. As the petrol trims are available at a price range between INR 22.6 Lakhs to INR 26.8 Lakhs, we can expect the diesel here at the starting price of INR 25 Lakhs. Rest of the details are likely to be released soon in the market. Stay tuned to get more updates on the same.
