With the success of the WR-V crossover, Honda plans to get more benefits and launch new SUVs and crossovers in India considering the increasing demand. The Honda is considering to hit ‘mass market’ with the launch of a Hyundai Creta rival and a new sub-four-meter compact SUV after 2020.
Both the new arrivals will take the same platform as Honda Amaze. Considering the body style, Honda Amaze has provided a new vision to the carmaker.
Taking inspiration from the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, and Ford EcoSport, the Honda will produce a new sub-four-meter SUV. This new SUV will be launched around 2021 and supersede the WR-V crossover. Provided that the compact SUV must be on a lower cost Amaze platform and priced competitively to the WR-V with Jazz/City platform. To make it a complete compact SUV, the silhouette has been placed upright. The cabin space will also be generous.
The second model is expected to be Hyundai Creta rival considering a larger 4.2- to 4.3-metre-long SUV. As compared to MPV-like BR-V crossover, this SUV will be premium SUV-like upright stance with a conventional look. It is not still clear that it will take five-seater or seven-seater arrangement. The new-gen Creta which will launch in 2021 is a seven-seat car.

Both the Honda SUVs will be using the same engine and gearboxes. The larger SUV will take the 1.5-litre petrol engine like City and the compact SUV will take a 1.2-litre petrol engine like Amaze. The new version will be available with a diesel engine option as well to add something necessary to the SUV space. However, Honda’s 1.5-litre Earth Dreams unit will be in doubt to met with the BS-VI emission norms. Manual and automatic gearbox we expect on offer and the new diesel-CVT combo from new Amaze will also be visible.
