Hyundai Motors India has updated its premium entry-level hot-hatch i20 to keep it upmarket with its rivals. The facelift Hyundai Elite i20 gets inside out updates along with various added features which makes it one of the toughest competitor in the segment.
Just like popular compact SUV, Maruti Vitara Brezza, the new Elite i20 now comes with dual-tone exterior paint schemes - red or white body colour with gloss black roof. Hyundai has also introduced an all new Marina Blue shade for the 2017 model of Elite i20. It can be noticed that blue has become a popular choice for the entry level hatchbacks.

Commenting on New Elite i20, Y K Koo, Managing Director and CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. said, “The Elite i20 has been a runaway global success, selling over 300,000 units since its launch in 2014. The New 2017 Elite i20, with more First-in-Segment features, will further enhance the brand’s appeal offering Premium Safety, Performance and Exceptional Driving Experience to the customers.”
The updates to 2017 Hyundai Elite i20 are done inside the cabin as well. The facelift version features a cheerful interior theme with orange accent on the upholstery, dashboard AC vents, center console and gear knob. With the host of new tech equipment, the cabin of new Elite i20 has become a benchmark in the segment. The 7-inch touchscreen Smart Infotainment System has now become smarter with inbuilt navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirrorlink set up.
The premium hatchback had already come with a number of latest generation features such as 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, keyless entry, Rear AC Vents, safety features like ABS, Rear Defogger and Fog Lamps. All these features have also been retained on the 2017 i20 model.
Mechanical specs for the 2017 model also remain unchanged. The facelift version is offered in two petrol and one diesel powertrains. The 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and develops a maximum power of 82 bhp along with a peak torque of 115 Nm.
On the other hand, the 1.4-litre 4-cylinder CRDi turbo diesel motor generates maximum power of 89 bhp and a peak torque of 220 Nm. The engine comes paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The i20 diesel version is claimed to return a fuel mileage of 22.54 kmpl.
Besides above powertrain options, one can also avail new Elite i20 in a 1.4-litre petrol automatic variant that develops a maximum power of 99 bhp and 132 Nm of maximum torque. The motor is mated to a 4-speed Dual VTVT automatic gearbox. Just to inform you, Hyundai uses traditional VTVT torque converter unlike the CVT (used in Honda Jazz and Maruti Suzuki Baleno), AMT (used in Maruti Suzuki Ignis) and DSG (used in Volkswagen Polo).
