India-Bound Next Generation Audi Q5 Spotted Testing in New Jersey

An engineering mule of what is expected to be the next generation Audi Q5 has been captured on camera again, but this time in New Jersey. While the global launch is expected to happen by the end of this year, a buzz of rumours are also hinting about the arrival of unit in India by early next year. Moreover, it would be brought as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) and assembled at the same Aurangabad facility as for its ongoing model.

With moving into next generation, the Q5 will also share the carmaker’s new MLB-Evo platform, which is currently performing under the nameplate of Audi A4, A5 sedan and the latest generation Q7 SUV. Being designed on this new chassis, it will come up with slightly lighter weight as well as more legroom space.



At the heart of the car, we might get to see a host of petrol and diesel engines, ranging between 1.8-litre and 3.0-litre units, further integrated with four cylinders to V6 arrangements. Depending on the motor, the transmission duties will be taken care of by 6-speed manual, a 7-speed dual clutch and an 8-speed automatic transmission unit.

With information available, the German automaker is also planning to cash more from the popularity of Q5 SUV by introducing a new version of the same unit SQ5, which will be powered by a 48V electric compressor turbocharger unit. The technology was first came under the hood of the new SQ7. Moreover, the electric motor might come along with a 3.0-litre diesel motor in order to produce an overall power figure of around 400 Bhp. Well, the reports are unclear to us that could be soon lighten up by the company. 



Presently, the Audi Q5 is standing against the other popular rival such as Mercedes-Benz GLE, the petrol variant of which has also been launched recently in the Indian car market at the price of INR 74.90 (Ex-showroom). Besides, it will also compete with Jaguar F-Pace, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60 that are due for launch in 2017.
