India Bound Suzuki Ignis Unveiled Officially; Lauch on January 13

Supposed to be launched during the 2016 festive season, the India-bound Suzuki Ignis have finally set on the launch card. The said unit, for which booking is likely to commence from the first week of January, will be available on the shores by January 13, 2016. After the great success of Baleno hatchback and S-cross crossover, which is currently being sold under the Nexa dealership, the new sibling will also be sold through the same facility.



According to the automaker, the Maruti Ignis is the country’s first Premium Urban Compact vehicle and basically brought up here to target millennials - those born in the late 1980s and early 1990s, said the company. Maruti Suzuki Ignis was first globally unveiled at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show and later the model also made its India debut at Auto Expo in February 2016 followed by the earlier concluded Paris Motor Show 2016. Recently the car was also launched for the UK market and it became the second country after the Japan who has the Ignis under its auto fleet.

The European-spec Ignis is powered by a 1.2-litre, four cylinders, K12C DualJet petrol engine that is tuned to belt out a power of 90 PS along with a torque of 118 Nm and features the company’s SHVS mild hybrid system, but for selected variants. Besides, a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic transmission option are also there. From what we know so far, the India-bound Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be available in a 1.2-litre VTVT petrol engine and a 1.3-litre multijet diesel engine. Both the motors will be supported by a 5-Speed manual transmission for dispatching the power at wheels. Whereas, Maruti Suzuki’s AGS (Auto Gear Shift) transmission unit could also be introduced later for the petrol derivative.

Dimensionally, it measures 3,700 mm in length, 1,660 mm in width, 1,595 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,438 mm. The ground clearance of the units stands at 180mm. Moreover, it shared its underpinning with the Baleno hatchback, however, it is slightly lighter in weight and measured at 810 kg, owing to its lightweight structures. Up front, the Ignis features clamshell bonnet, fog lamps along with chrome inserts, a projector headlamp covered with U-shaped DRLs, smartly-designed grille, and gloss black alloy wheels.



Inside the cabin, the European-based Ignis comes with a comfort legroom space and enough spacious boot lid of 267 litres. In terms of the features, it gets standard equipment like six airbags, DAB radio with Bluetooth, air conditioning, 15-inch alloy wheels, front electric windows, body-coloured door mirrors and room for five occupants. The India-bound Ignis is also believed to carry features similar to its European sibling. On the safety front, it is going to be offered with seatbelt pre tensioners, ABS and dual airbags as standard equipment.



There yet to be disclosed some details about the India-spec unit including price as well, which is expected to be fall in between INR 6.5 Lakh to INR 9.5 Lakh (Ex-showroom). Once launched, it will take on the likes of Hyundai i20 Active and Mahindra KUV 100, which is recently launched in the Indian car place.
