The next generation Yamaha YZF R15 V3.0 has been revealed at a gala event in Jakarta, Indonesia. At the event, the famous MotoGP team riders Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales ride the all new sports beast to the stage where it made its global debut.
Back in the time, the Japanese two wheeler manufacturer introduced a 150cc sports bike, YZF R15 the flagship model in 2008. After that, it received the facelift update in 2011 under the moniker of YZF R15 V2.0. And finally, it was time for the V3.0.
Since the R15 has a successful history in India, the YZF R15 Version 3.0 will be launched in the country by the end of this year. The latest V3.0 update borrows its design clues from the elder sibling, R6. It is built to beat every bike in the segment on the performance aspect since the bike became quicker off the mark and received a bucket of new features, more powerful engine, racing hearts and more.
A few days ago in an interview, Yasuo Ishihara, Managing Director at Yamaha Motor Research & Development India Pvt Ltd had a word, “The R15 will become better in its next iteration, however, no details can be shared as to what would exactly the specifications be like, but we can assure that it will be a step-up from the current generation in all aspects of performance and safety. We also want to extract as much as possible from a motorcycle to give maximum value-for-money for our products.”
And the Cat is finally out of its bag, the new Yamaha R15 V3.0 carries an entirely new mechanically heart that comprises a 155.1cc 4-stroke single cylinder liquid cooled SOHC engine. The setup is good for producing the maximum power of 20 PS that comes out at 10,000 rpm while the peak torque of 14.7 Nm churns out at 8,500 rpm. With the bump of 3 PS to the outgoing model, the R15 V3.0 became the most powerful bike in the segment, against the 19 PS of Suzuki GSX. The motor is paired with a 6-speed transmission which also gets a slipper clutch.
The FI fuel delivery system continues on the latest update, and so is the clutch. However, both the system received several tweaks to enhance the riding quality of the bike.
On the aesthetics, the 2017 Yamaha R15 V3.0 will be offered with a range of new body shades that are available in single tone as well as dual tone. The features list on the bike includes twin LED headlamps, new instrument cluster with a multi-info display, new exhaust system, front fairing becomes more aerodynamic, upside down forks, new alloys, LED taillight, LED side blinkers, aluminium swing arm and Delta Box frame. However, there is no ABS offered on the bike. Though it may be seen on the India-spec R15 V3.0.
The YZF R15 V3.0 will go on sale first in the Indonesian market from February 16, 2017, And price will be revealed then. Although, it will likely to get a slightly higher price tag than the outgoing model.
