Indian government to Grant Up to Rs 105 crore to cities for EVs

Day by day increasing pollution is a crucial issue not only for India but also for the world so in order to control increasing pollution level in big cities, the Indian government is granting Rs 105 crore under the FAME India scheme to encourage adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in multi-modal public transport to a large extent. Though, the received invite proposals from big cities are urging to expand this amount.

The Heavy Industries Ministry that showcases an expression of interest in this initiative has attained proposals from state government departments, undertakings and municipal corporations for providing incentives to purchase electric buses, electric four-wheelers, passenger cars and electric three-wheelers.

Besides this monetary grant of up to Rs 105 crore per city, the Indian government will also provide funds of Rs 15 crore per city to construct charging infrastructure in the selected cities. The selection of proposal will be based on different parameters such as the population of a city, its average pollution level, the number of vehicles registered, ranking under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. No matter if it is in one of the proposed Smart Cities.

For a reminisce, the granted fund will only be availed for those electric buses, electric four-wheelers, passenger cars and electric three-wheelers that propel with the sport of new-generation batteries without lead such as lithium polymer, lithium iron phosphate, nickel metal hydride, zinc air.

The Special Category States will receive the demanded incentives for facilitating needed charging infrastructure for such e-vehicles. The buyers including end users and consumers in the form of an upfront reduced price to enable wider adoption, will be availed by the demand incentive under the FAME India Scheme .
