KIA has geared-up to introduce performance based derivatives of many of its regular sporty models soon. These performance oriented cars will be adorned with the ‘GT’ (Grand Touring) badge. These super sport models will be sold across the globe.
As many of us are not familiar with the name KIA, Let me introduce it first, headquartered in Seoul, it is the second largest automotive manufacturer company of South Korea following the Hyundai Motors. And is also partially owned by the Hyundai Motors.
Back to the updated GT cars, the ProCeed GT was especially designed for the European market only, but according to the AUTOCAR reports, Hyundai and KIA’s performance development boss and former BMW M engineer, Albert Biermann says that the upcoming variants will be sold globally.

The reports further explained, Biermann acknowledged that all KIA cars are not fit for the GT updates but most of the company’s mainstream cars will be launched with the performance-focused versions.
The very first car that will be produced under this wave of hot GT versions, will be the Optima GT. Under the hood, it will carry a 2.0-litre GDI turbo 4-cylinder gasoline engine that churns out a maximum power of 247 hp. It will also be further enhanced by some chassis and exterior changes in order to look different from its forerunner model.
The next GT tuned model will be next-generation KIA RIO, soon after the Optima GT to compete with Fiesta ST.
While the aforementioned both models have already confirmed for the production, KIA is still uncertain about lining-up the Sportage model for GT treatment.
KIA's upcoming GT models could borrow the technologies from Hyundai's N-division, as Biermann suggests that they were unlikely to feature extreme technology such as electronically controlled limited slip differential that is developed for the top variants of the upcoming Hyundai i30N.
Albert Biermann added, “Hyundai is the quieter brand, that’s why the N-Division was created, because the brand cannot stretch as far. Kia can stretch much further, and I think we will be able to do more aggressive cars.”
