Jaguar Showcased All Electric I-Pace SUV Concept at LA Auto Show

Tata Motors’ owned British luxury car manufacturer, Jaguar has displayed a production concept of its futuristic all-electric car named, I-Pace SUV which is assumed to be a sibling of the recently launched F-Pace. Jaguar is expected to put this concept I-Pace SUV into production in 2018.

Jaguar had started its plan to develop the first electric vehicle of the brand a few months and now finally the audience at the ongoing LA Auto Show witnessed of it. Company's goal for the much-anticipated first electrical vehicle was to “Create a performance SUV that is spacious, sporty and usable”, and the displayed prototype is not just an electric model of the F-Pace SUV.

The electric drivetrain of I-Pace helps in four-door body design with ample cabin space in both rows, all wheel drive system and surely, the boosted performance that will be on a higher notch with that of a rear wheel drive F-Type R.


Moving towards the specifications of the displayed concept by the Jaguar, it features a new, bespoke, in-house designed, aluminium-intensive, battery electric vehicle architecture which is also termed as the ‘electric skateboard’. This is reportedly production ready and uses the battery pack housing as an integral part of the structure. In this new architecture, the drive is offered by the pair of synchronous permanent magnet electric motors, every motor is linked to the each axle and paired with a single speed epicyclic transmission. Further, the power is derived from a 90 KWh lithium-ion battery pack.

The concept I-Pace is capable of producing the maximum power of 400 hp with 200 hp from each motor, and peak torque of 700 Nm. the British maker claims 4 seconds for the I-Pace to hit 100 kmph from a standstill and a driving range of 500 km in a single charge.


On the exterior dimensions, the I-Pace concept measures 4,680mm in length, 1,890mm in width and 1,560mm in height, which are smaller measurements compare to the brand’s big boy F-Pace. However, the bigger change is to the wheelbase, Jaguar’s I-Pace features a wheelbase of 2,990 mm against the 2,874 mm that of the F-Pace. Moreover, the I-Pace’s wheelbase is 30 mm longer than that of the XF.

Inside the Cabin, the first ever Jaguar electric car concept maximises the inside space for the occupants while featuring the minimalist design. Most of the interior functions are operated by dashboard-mounted touchscreen and buttons. Jaguar also claims that the I-Pace offers the better legroom with the space of 71 mm for the rear occupants than some full-size SUV.


With this I-Pace all-electric concept, Jaguar has stepped-in the zero-emission drive and will be battling against the Tesla Model X and the upcoming vehicles including the Audi e-tron SUV and a production electric car from Mercedes’ new EQ sub-brand.
