Tata Motors-owned JLR (Jaguar Land Rover) India has added a new diesel powered variant to its entry-level sedan, Jaguar XE at a starting price of INR 38.25 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Similar to the petrol sibling, the diesel variant is launched in three trims - Pure, Prestige, and Portfolio. Bookings for the new version have already been kicked off across the 24 Jaguar authorised dealerships in India with a token amount of INR 2 lakh, while deliveries will begin soon.
The diesel version is priced INR 1 lakh higher than the outgoing petrol trim which has been on sale in India since January 2016 and carries a price tag of INR 37.25 Lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. At the launch of Jaguar XE diesel model, Rohit Suri, Managing Director at Jaguar Land Rover India said, “The XE has been a very successful model from the Jaguar family and with the Jaguar XE diesel, we are confident of further expanding our customer base in the country.”
Beneath the front-end, the new Jaguar XE diesel comes with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder motor belongs to the carmaker’s new Ingenium family. Internationally, the engine is available in two states of tune - 160 bhp and 177 bhp, however, in India, we only get the more powerful version out of the two. Being an oil burner, the motor produces a maximum torque of 430 Nm. The outputs are channelled via a standard 8-Speed transmission operated with paddle shifters.
Inside-out design and cosmetic details of the new diesel-powered Jaguar XE remain identical to that of the petrol version. The car is framed on Jaguar’s lightweight Aluminium Architecture which is derived from aerospace industry and also used in company's iconic coupe - Jaguar F-Type.
The major features on the list include Meridian Sound System, panoramic sunroof and an 8-inch touchscreen display with InControl infotainment system. To provide enhanced drive experience, the car gets Jaguar Drive Control System which enables the driver to choose between Normal, Eco, Dynamic modes or Rain Ice Snow modes.
