The Indian subsidiary of the American car manufacturer, Jeep India has launched the Compass SUV on July 31, 2017. Available at an introductory asking rate of INR 14.95 lakh, it is the most affordable SUV in the brand's Indian product lineup. While its top end variant costs INR 20.65 lakh. Both are the ex-showroom prices of the model.
During the launch, the company promised to commence deliveries in coming weeks, cementing its words, the first batch of the SUV is all set to hand over to their respective owners from the carmaker on the first-cum-first-serve basis. Besides being locally produced at the Fiat India’s Ranjangaon plant, near Pune, which has the production capacity of 1.6 lakhs units and 3.5 lakhs engines, the waiting period for the novice is 3-months.
In terms of styling and included features the all new Jeep Compass shares its bits from the Grand Cherokee. The SUV's front fascia is embellished with the signature seven slat grille with sleek headlamps pairs and LED daytime running lamps onto either side. Other than this, the bumper studded fog lamps get a dual tone effect to it. The Compass profile wears intense SUV stance along with the big wheel arches that house the 18in alloys and the claddings to offer a tough look to the car.
Under the hood, Jeep Compass is being offered with two engine options including both petrol and diesel engine. The 1.4-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol is capable of producing the maximum power of 160 bhp along with the peak torque of 260 Nm. While the 2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine is rated to generate the power over 170 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. The power transmission is under the supervision of a 6-Speed Manual Gearbox and a 7-Speed Automatic transmission as optional.
Other than this, the Jeep Compass also provides the aids of a 4WD system and driving modes consist of Snow, Sand, and Rock mode. Well, as of now, the only diesel variant is being offered from the Jeep India. Whilst, the deliveries for the petrol variant is expected sometimes near Diwali. The Jeep Compass’ boot space is 480 liters with seat folding adjustment it can be increased to 770 liters.
In the segment, the Jeep Compass will be pitted against with the opponents such as the Tata Hexa, Mahindra XUV500, Hyundai Tucson and Honda CR-V in India.
