In a hush-hush manner, Jeep Compass has added a new mid-spec variant of the Longitude (O) to its Indian product line. Offered in petrol, the new variant will join the ranks of other Jeep petrol offerings which includes the base Sport, higher-spec Limited and Limited (O) and top-spec Limited Plus trims. The new petrol-powered Longitude (O) carries an Rs 18.90 lakh price tag.
The price tag makes the Longitude (O) about Rs 3.5 lakh dearer than the base Compass Sport. Key features of the petrol-powered Longitude(O) include:
Interior highlights include push-button start. Other than this entertainment and comfort needs will be served by a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility and an automatic climate control system.
Costing about Rs 3.5 lakh more than the base Compass Sport, the Longitude (O) variant comes with features such as 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails,, push-button start,Safety kit is the same as the lower variant, with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control, traction control and four-wheel disc brakes coming as standard.

The new mid-spec variant does miss out on LED tail-lamps, leather seats and steering, an optional dual-tone exterior finish and bi-xenon HID headlamps when compared to the top-spec trim.
Under the bonnet, there is little to discern between the new trim from its other siblings in the Compass Longitude (O) lineup. It comes powered with the 1.4-liter turbo-petrol engine that clocks 163 hp at 250 Nm of torque. Transmission duties rest on a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The front wheel drive mid-spec Compass Longitude (O) will also be offered with a 173hp, 2.0-liter diesel engine. However, the diesel trim will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
On the Indian Roads, the mid-spec offering will take on the likes of Hyundai Tucson, the soon-to-arrive Tata Harrier, and the upcoming MG Hector. With the new mid-spec variant, the Jeep Compass is very strategically placed to dominate the mid-priced car segment. We also await Jeep to soon launch the Compass Trailhawk which would supposedly be an all-out be a diesel-automatic off-roader.
