Finally the most awaited day has come when buyers of Mahindra XUV500 can enjoy the pleasure of driving Automatic Transmission variant as just today Mahindra has unveiled the 6-speed automatic transmission option for the model and has kept its price from or above INR 15.36 lacs (ex-showroom), which as we know is around one lakh rupees more than the equivalent manual version. The automatic version of XUV500 will be made available across all dealerships in the country from the next month, precise date quoted as December 5.

The 6-speed automatic gearbox that the model uses has been sourced from Aisin (a Japanese company) and is already being used in may other models like: SsangYong Tivoli compact SUV and is also used in the diesel version of the SsangYong Korando C. When Mahindra was asked about the launch, the company simply quoted that "the gear ratios have been optimized for Indian terrain, and has been tested extensively. This second generation transmission is the first high-tech product to be shared with SsangYong". The company also mentions that this gearbox will surely be used in projects that will be undertaken by the company in near future.
The new automatic variant of the SUV will be offered on three trim levels - W8 (Front-Wheel Drive), W10 (Front-Wheel Drive) and W10 (All-Wheel Drive) price tags of which are INR 15.36 lacs, INR 16.2 lacs and INR 17.22 lacs respectively. All these variants come equipped with the same 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel engine that produces the same output of 140 bhp and 330 Nm, same as in case of the manual version. On the mileage front. XUV500 holds a ARAI certified mileage value that is 13.85 kmpl.
Earlier the reports had also claimed that the Mahindra Scorpio automatic, which uses a 6-speed automatic gearbox sourced from Drivetrain Systems International (DSI) of Australia can also switch to auto transmission by Aisin next year.
