Mahindra SsangYong Rexton recalled in India Over Powertrain Issue

Mahindra has recalled its SsangYong Rexton flagship SUVs in India as the carmaker has encountered a powertrain issue in the models that were manufactured before 2014.

According to the company, the defect may lead to the loss in torque in the Rexton’s rear drive shaft. The issue will be fixed free of cost by the automaker. However, the recall move has been witnessed on account of SIAM’s voluntary code on the matter. The respective owners will be contacted by the automaker and the repair job has been assured.

The Rexton model is being sold in India since 2012 exclusively via select Mahindra outlets. The ladder frame SUV is said to be based on the old Mercedes ML Class ( which is now renamed as GLE). The model is being assembled at Mahindra’s Chakan plate out of CKD kits.

As of now, the SsangYong is making it to introduce the next gen Rexton at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in October. The new SUV is based on latest ladder frame chassis and it will be featuring some significant cosmetic changes inside-out. The next generation Rexton is expected to land in India by the next year.
