Auto Expo 2018: Maruti Suzuki Launches New 2018 Swift in India at INR 4.99 Lakh

Finally, the day has come for which we are waiting for a long time. The highly-anticipated new 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift has been launched in India at an introductory price sticker of INR 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base variant. While for the range-topping variant you have to spend sum INR 7.96 lakh. In terms of powertrain, the brand is continuing the engine options from the previous model. But the introduction of AMT transmission for the diesel variant is for the first time. The booking for the new Swift has already been commenced. Though, the deliveries against bookings will take place later this month as the brand is giving a waiting period of six to eight weeks.

This third generation Maruti Swift is all new as compared to its predecessor. It is developed on the modern, lightweight Heartect platform. It is strong and offers dynamic performance. At the exterior front, the updates the Swift has received include a large grille at the front fascia along with bug-like projector headlamps and LED DRLs on the top trims. In addition to this, the company employed new diamond cut alloy wheels and LED tail lights at the rear front.

Moving inside the cabin of next-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift, you will find all black interior. There is new dashboard which is blacked out and decorated with silver accents on it. Other than this, the instrument cluster is new that boasts of bug-shaped twin pod for the tachometer and speedometer. The offered flat-bottom steering wheel along with silver accents looks sportier. Altogether, for owner’s convenience, there are music and telephony controls on the steering wheel. The centre console consists of a large touchscreen SmartPlay infotainment system that gives aid like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support and automatic climate control on the high-end trims.

Wide body and longer wheelbase of the new Swift offers better legroom at the rear section as compared to the predecessor model. The boot space on this improved hatchback has also extended with a slight margin and now stands at 268 litres.

Beneath the hood, Maruti Suzuki is offering the same tried and tested a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine from the previous model. The former is capable of generating the maximum power of 82bhp and 115Nm of peak torque. Whereas, the later makes out 74bhp along with 190Nm. The transmission duties are handled by a 5-speed manual and automatic gearbox options.
