It has been two years for the Maruti Suzuki premium crossover, S-Cross in the Indian market and now the model is up for a mid-cycle refresh. Speaking to AutoCar India at 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire launch event, C. V. Raman, executive director of R & D at Maruti Suzuki India, said, that “the S-Cross will get refreshed and launch will take place around Diwali”.
First launched in the mid of 2015, the flagship crossover, however, has failed to garner much praise here in India, but carries a trust mark from the consumers. Now the carmaker is gearing up to re-launch the premium S-Cross under the facelift moniker with lots of designing and styling cues, along with a completely new fascia.
Suzuki globally showcased the S-Cross facelift for the international markets last year at the Paris Motor Show 2016. The Indo-Japanese auto giant is likely to launch the similar specs variant in the Indian market. As reported earlier, the updated S-Cross features an all new front fascia with much larger and bold looking grille pattern with vertical slats holding company’s badge at the center.
Adding a slightly more premium appeal to the crossover, the 2017 S-Cross is expected to ride on new striking diamond cut alloy wheels. In addition, it will boast of projector headlamps and LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) as well as LED tail lamps.
Overall, the updated version is expected to remain identical to that of the outgoing model in terms of measurement. Though, this time S-Cross appears more muscular and aggressive. Once launched, the company will be battling it out against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and recently launched Honda WR-V.
Updates, however, will not be limited to just exteriors, the cabin as well receives a number of new changes along with the new features. And the most highlighted part is a new dashboard mounted touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with MirrorLink. As the touchscreen display is a usual feature in cars now-a-days and even offered in smaller cars from the Japanese carmaker, it makes sense that Maruti Suzuki will bring the same on its flagship offering as well.
Under the hood, the new 2017 S-Cross facelift will come fitted with the same mechanical setup as offered on the outgoing model. The 1.3-litre DDiS diesel motor churns out a maximum power of 89 bhp and a peak torque of 200 Nm, while the bigger 1.6-litre diesel is capable of delivering a maximum power of 118 bhp along with a peak torque of 320 Nm. Can we expect a petrol-powered version of the S-Cross this time? Well, can't say anything before the carmaker hints or just have to wait for this festive season.
S-Cross was the first product to come out from the carmaker’s premium dealership network, Nexa, and the facelift model will continue to be sold exclusively at the Nexa stores. In terms of price, Maruti Suzuki has already burnt its fingers with the higher price tag, and for sure, they would not want to let that happen again.
