Maserati to Make An Official Comeback for India

The Italian automaker Maserati, has recently revealed about its plan to operate in India. The company, in a press conference on the 15th of July in New Delhi, will announce its official return to the country. Maserati India's first dealership is likely to be set up in Mumbai, which will be operated by an Ahemdabad based Group Planet Petal. Globally, this automaker operates under Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, but in India, Maserati will work as an independent entity.

Earlier, the automobile brand had ties with the Shreyans Group for the sale of Maserati cars in India. But then due to some illegal practices by this Group, the contract was aborted in 2012-13. This time, the automobile brand is all set to make a comeback in the country with models like Quattroporte, Granturismo and GranCabrio.

For this comeback, Maserati India is planning to form a team consisting of 8-10 members that will report to the company's Dubai office. This office, in turn, will be reporting to Mr Bojan Jankulovski who is the Development Manager at Maserati Overseas Markets Network.

The automaker will introduce its models for the first time at 2016 Delhi Auto Expo to be held in February. The Quattroporte model is a luxury sedan, which is available in a range of powertrain options including- 3 litre V-6 and 3.8 litre V-8 petrol units along with a 3 litre, V-6 diesel unit. Another model Granturismo which is to be introduced in India is a sports coupe. This coupe is offered with 4.2 litre and 4.7 litre V-8 petrol engine options.

Apart from these models, the successful Maserati Ghibli is also expected to make its way to the Indian automobile market. It is a four-door sedan model which is offered globally with 3 litre, V-6 engines both in petrol and diesel variants. This sedan will give a tough fight to sedans like Audi A7, BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe and Mercedes-Benz CLS.
