Mercedes Benz, the most popular name in the luxury vehicles is all set to arrive with its GLA compact SUVs in India this year. The biggest auto major has brought its two compact SUVs for homologation and have been completed the journey of reaching to the shores of India from Germany.
The two variants that have appeared for Indian homologation are GLA 200 Sport and GLA 200 CDI. It is perfectly describing that launch of these two models are not so far. The GLA concept car was first shown at the Delhi Auto Expo in February 2014.
The GLA 200 Sport takes power from 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine which has the capability to generate 154 HP of peak power and can pull the car with 250 Nm of peak torque. While the GLA 200 CDI is built with 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine which is good for generating 134 HP of peak power and 300 Nm of peak torque. Both models are mated with the same 7-speed automatic gearbox.
6 speed manual gearbox will also be provided in Sport variant which will be available for the Internation market only. 200 CDI can reach upto 100 KMPH in 9.9 seconds while Sport variant can run upto 100KMPH in 8.8 seconds.
Paddle shifts will also house with the 200 Sport as a standard feature. It is also expected that the both compact SUVs will priced between Rs. 28 lakhs and Rs. 31 lakhs. Interior of both variant will be garnished with leather seats and they will also fit with 7 airbags to add safety. It is expected that India will taste only front wheel drive version of both models. Four wheel drive is only available in Europe and other parts of the world.
