Mercedes-Benz GLA 220 d 4MATIC 'Active Edition' Launched India at INR 38.51 Lakh

Taking a step forward in order to expand its Indian portfolio, the renowned luxury carmaker, Mercedes-Benz has added a new family member to its GLA family in India. The German based auto major has launched ‘Active Edition’ of Mercedes-Benz GLA 220 d 4MATIC all-wheel drive SUV variant in India at the price of INR 38.51 Lakh (Ex-Showroom, Pune).

This is the 9th new product and 6th SUV offering in the Indian market in this year by the carmaker. Mercedes-Benz has total 12 new launches on the cards for the Indian market in this year. Addressing the press at the launching event, Roland Forger, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, pointed the growing demand for SUVs in India is the reason behind the company’s latest move.

Further adding he said, “The GLA was a key addition to our SUV portfolio as it not only generated volumes for us, but also opened the SUV segment to a much younger customer base. We have sold over 3500 units of the GLA since its market introduction and with the launch of the GLA 220 d 4MATIC Activity Edition, we expect the volumes to scale even further and add more value to the consumer”.

The Mercedes-Benz GLA class has been in the service since 2014 in the base petrol, diesel and high performance GLA 45 AMG versions. The newly launched GLA 220 d also comes in a special avatar called, ‘Active Edition’ which features additional equipment.

On the power front, the GLA 220 d will continue to get power from same 2.1-litre in-line, four-cylinder diesel engine that also features in the GLA 200 d, but now the output figures have been boosted up. With bump in power of 34 hp, now the engine is capable of producing the maximum power of 170 hp, while the peak torque stands at 350 Nm after increased by 50 Nm. The engine mill is mated to a 7G-DCT transmission. With this retuned engine, the GLA 220 d can hit 100 kmph of speed from a standstill in decent 7.7 seconds. The updated SUV will now be available with the 4MATIC and off-road package as standard across all variants.

Technology-wise, it gets a new 8-inch smart infotainment display, the keyless GO starting function, Easy Pack Tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, stowage package and load compartment package with multiple storage facilities, along with a 12 V socket in the boot.

Mercedes-Benz GLA class is the smallest SUV offering in the country from the German luxury carmaker. And by adding the 4Matic variant to its line-up, the carmaker will enhance the competition with the likes of BMW X1 xDrive and the Audi Q3 Quattro.
