Mercedes-Benz S650 and S500 Maybach Variants Explained

The ultra-luxury S-Class variants from the German carmaker, the Mercedes-Benz S650 and S500 have emerged in Indian lineup at the respective pricing of INR 2.73 crores and INR 1.94 crores. These facelifted trims of the S-Class are the improved iterations of the existing models with mid-life updates. Also, the bookings have already been commenced.

On the outside, the common package of new bumpers along with a full LED lighting setup on both the front and rear end completely changed the visual of the car. Moving inside, as expected for an S-Class, the auto major does the same with fitting it a massive list of comfort and convenience features. That includes climate control, ambient lighting, new steering wheel and massaging rear seats as well.

To control the Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, the rear placed remote has been superseded by a mobile app that in sync with the COMAND online infotainment system, offers similar access.

In terms of power, the S650 is packed with a twin turbo 6.0-litre V12 engine that is capable of supplying 621bhp/1000Nm. Whereas, the lower trim, the S500 gets the propelling power from a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that develops 463bhp/700Nm. All the generated power is transmitted to the rear wheel via a nine-speed automatic transmission as a standard fitment.

The S500 in the segment pitted against the BMW 750Li M Sport, Jaguar XJ L V8 Autobiography, BMW X6M, Lexus LS Distinct and the Porsche Panamera Turbo Executive. For the more premium and niche the S650 variant, there is only the closest rival the BMW M760Li xDrive that is on sale at INR 2.38 crores. Here in India, the availability of the S650 Maybach is registered through the CBU route while the S500 Maybach that hit the Indian shores via CKD routes will be assembled at the brand’s manufacturing unit near Pune.
