It is quite obvious that the removal of diesel ban issue will revive the Indian auto market sales which got highly affected in last eight months. In a recent report, the Indian subsidiary of the German auto giant Mercedes has revealed a sales report of its July-September period that claimed a growth of 12 per cent from 2,975 examples dispatched in April-June 2016.
However, the automaker has not achieved the same number, which it had registered during the same period last year. With information available, the company has witnessed 3 per cent decline in sales in July-September 2016 period. It sold 3,327 cars against the 3,420 units in the same period of 2015.
Commenting on the sales performance, Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO at Mercedes-Benz India said, “We are delighted to see green shoots emerging in our sales volumes compared to the previous quarter. Though the resurgence of sales is still slow, we are confident that it will gain pace in the remaining months. New products, especially the SUVs, combined with our strategic network expansion will boost customer sentiments, and we are confident of sustaining the momentum gained.”

Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz had gone through many ups and downs due to the same diesel ban reason. Marginal sales of the first nine months are recorded as 9,924 units which are around 1.5 percent less from the 10,079 units sold in January to September last year. Besides, it is the same reason that has bound the company to launch petrol version of all its line-up in the country.
“SUVs volume jumping 45 per cent, followed by the sedans. The introduction of the localised GLC was a strategic move and we are encouraged by its strong response, and expect more customers to decide in favour of the GLC.”
As the report suggests, Mercedes’s strong sales were attributable to the SUV portfolio including the GLA, GLC, GLE, GLE Coupe, GLS and G-Class. Further, the GLE Class has been awarded as the highest selling SUV of the reported quarter followed by the GLA, GLS and also the recently launched GLC, the company conveyed in statement. Amongst the sedan range, the C-Class emerged as the largest selling followed by the E-Class.
“The GLC in particular witnessed high preference and we expect this trend to continue with the interest around the locally assembled GLC gaining traction across the country. We expect the GLC to emerge as one of our highest selling models,” further added by Folger.
