Mercedes Launches GLS 400 Petrol in India at INR 82.90 Lakh

New Delhi: Mercedes has included a petrol-powered version of its giant SUV GLS 400 4MATIC in India at a price bucket of INR 82.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new variant now joins the GLS 350d diesel in the country. Also, the German luxury carmaker has given a mid-cycle modification to the range, which now has a new name- GLS, ditching the earlier one called as GL-class.

As per the statement by the company, Mercedes-Benz is craving to make it possible for the best products to reach worldwide as soon as possible. The GLS 400 4MATIC petrol has been introduced in just a couple of months after the diesel variant was launched. On seeing this, we can assume the company’s strategy to expand its market globally at a brisk pace.

Mercedes GLS 400 4MATIC launched

“The introduction of the GLS 400 4MATIC is a strategic move as it gives the customers the flexibility to choose between the petrol and the diesel variants of their popular SUV,” says, Roland Folger, Managing Director, Mercedes-Benz. “This is also the fifth SUV variant we introduced this year, further bolstering our SUV portfolio which remains the most comprehensive in the luxury car segment. Our SUV segment has seen the maximum growth for the past two years and we are confident that this trend will continue,” he continued.
The GLS 400 will be a fully-imported SUV just like the GLE 400, however, the local assembly is scheduled to be done later for now. Even the price is not a bothering factor as it is only 1 lakh rupees higher than the GLS 350d, which carries a tag of INR 81.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). With a 3.0-litre twin turbo V6 petrol engine, the mill manages to deliver 330BHP of power with 480NM of torque. The Mercedes S 400, the E 400 cabriolet and the newly-arrived GLE 400 have got the same engine.

“We have five more products to be introduced in the coming months, including ones without any predecessor. With the upcoming festive season and a resurgence of customer sentiment, we have a positive outlook for the remainder of the year,” commented Fogler, talking about the upcoming launches.

As of now, the GLS 400 is pretty safe in the battle of Indian car segment as no direct rival is there to lock the horns. Albeit, if reports are believed to be true than a petrol-powered Audi A7 might make a move in India soon.
