Mercedes-Benz’ flagship sedan, the S-Class that has recently been showcased in its facelift version, is all set to mark its presence at the Indian dealership. Apparently, the updated S-Class doesn’t appear much different from the outgoing model. Besides boasting a slew of cosmetic upgrades which includes redesigned bumpers, a new front grille and radar-based driver assistance features. The alteration that is being considered as a major one on this 2018 model, is the introduction of the latest diesel engine. It is codenamed as OM 656 and in compliance with BS-VI emission norms. This first-ever ‘Made in India’ BS-VI vehicle by Mercedes-Benz is compatible with lower grade BS-IV grade fuel. It is ready to hit the Indian roads on February 26, 2018.
The 3.0-litre, V6 diesel engine that does the propelling duties under the hood of the S 350d model has been replaced with this new in-line, six-cylinder diesel engine. The former one cranks out 258hp along with 620Nm while, the later one is capable of generating 286hp with a hike of 28hp and transmitting lower torque of 600Nm by 20Nm.
Well, this BS-VI engine will face difficulties as the BS-IV compliant fuel has a high Sulphur content. Also, the BS-VI emission norms will be effected in the country in April 2020. Though, the company has some adjustments to the engine to make it compatible with the BS-IV grade that as per the government plans is expected to available in Delhi by April 2018. Whereas, it will be accessible across the country by April 2020.

Exterior wise, the 2018 S-Class model attains the equipment like new headlamps, taillamps and revised bumpers. Moving inside, the interior is a bit more attractive than the previous model. It now gets a new 12.3-inch touchscreen, new wood and leather trim option for the interior inlays and seat sides. In addition to this, there is a new fragrance and ambient lighting options are also added. For occupants comfort, the automaker is offering carry forwarded four-zone climate control along with ventilated seats with body-massage functions.
This third BS-VI compliant model in brand’s lineup will go on sale soon and the S 560 and the S 650 are the recent introductions from the German carmaker at the ongoing Auto Expo 2018. The price to purchase these later mentioned models are INR 1.94 crore and INR 2.73 crore respectively.
