National Mission on Transformative Mobility and Battery Storage Approved By The Govt

The \'National Mission on Transformative Mobility and Battery Storage\' has finally been permitted at a meeting of the Union Cabinet which was chaired by PM Mr Narendra Modi. In the mission, there will be an inter-ministerial steering committee which is chaired by the CEO of NITI Aayog. The mission is to encourage clean, sustainable, shared, connected and holistic mobility initiatives.

For EVs, components and batteries, the national mission is planning a five-year period (till 2024) for implementing and finalizing the transformative mobility and PMP (phased manufacturing programmes). The details of PMP for the Electric Vehicle ecosystem will also be finalised along with the implementation. The government says that the value addition that can be acquired with every step of localisation will be finalized with the strategy of \'Make in India\', which is a clear strategy for battery technologies with EV components.

To implement Giga-scale battery manufacturing, a phased roadmap will at first focus on large-scale module and then will pack an assembly plants between the financial year that starts in April which is later followed by the integrated cell manufacturing by 2021-2022. Aforementioned, the PMP details for the batteries will also be prepared by the mission which will check the overall and comprehensive growth of battery-manufacturing industry in India.

The mission will interrelate with different stakeholders in ministries or departments and states to associate with other initiatives which also focus on the growth of India. These steps are taken to make the life of the citizens more comfortable by promoting ‘ease of living’ and improving the ‘way of living’ which will increase the employment opportunities via ‘Make in India’ as per the skills of the people.

The main purpose of the initiative is to send a green signal to the industry and make the necessary investments to make the Electric Vehicle value chain local.
