Chevrolet is gearing up to launch the updated version of its entry-level hatch, Beat in India and it is reported that carmaker will bring this second-gen model in July 2017. The Indian arm of the American automaker had kicked off on road testing of the refreshed Beat in the later half of last year and it is noticed from the number of spy shots that 2017 Beat will be covered by a more conservative outfit. In addition to this, the small wonder is likely to boast of the word ‘intelli’.
Well, starting with the exterior looks, the new Beat has ditched its edgy and sharp styling cues, instead, it will try to lure the respective buyers with an old-fashioned less-edgy makeover. However, it will continue to offer rear door-handles mounted on the c-pillar. However, this different styling trend was first introduced by the American auto giant with the first generation Beat and letter followed by the compact designed cars such as Mahindra KUV100. It has also been reported that next-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift (India launch due for 2018) will also come with the same style rear door handles.
Chevrolet showcased two of its lined up products at 2016 Delhi Auto Expo - the Beat Activ hatchback and the Essentia compact sedan. Both the cars will be based on the same platform that runs new Beat. it is expected that soon after the updated Beat is launched in India, the carmaker will focus on the next two launches, the Beat Activ and Essentia in India.
Coming back to the new Beat, besides a completely new makeover, it will still borrow several iconic details from the existing Beat. Apart from similar rear passenger door handles on the outside, it gets the same groovy instrument panel on the inside. At the rear, the new Beat gets revised styling cues. The number plate has been shifted from boot lid to the bumper. The taillamps have also been slightly increased in dimension and likely to get LED inserts to sound more upmarket. Another major update which will be added to the 2017 Beat is Chevrolet’s MyLink smart infotainment system blessed with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and voice command features.
Under the hood, it is expected to carry the same diesel and petrol powertrains from the current Beat, though in an enhanced state of tune. The outgoing Beat’s petrol engine details include 1.2-litre motor churns out maximum power and maximum torque of 78 PS and 106.5 Nm respectively. The diesel motor, on the other hand, gets a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder setup that produces maximum power and maximum torque of 57 PS and 142.5 Nm respectively.
Earlier, the launch of new Beat was scheduled for the starting months of this year but has seen delayed until July. Once launched, the 2017 Beat will rival against the likes of Hyundai Eon, Tata Tiago, Hyundai Grand i10 and Maruti Suzuki Alto K10.
