Next-gen 2017 Honda CR-V To Get Bigger With Significant Upgrade

The next generation Honda CR-V is claimed to be bigger and better than the outgoing model. The automaker revealed that the new CR-V will hold longer wheelbase than the predecessor. It is said that the fifth-generation CR-V will be based on automaker’s new platform and will offer powerful range of engines as well. The new SUV will arrive in the UK market by 2018.

Meanwhile, production-ready CR-V models have been spotted several times in the US under heavy camouflage. It becomes clear that the new CR-V will be significantly bigger and muscular than the ongoing model. Honda is also introducing the large third row seats into the CR-V with generous cabin space. With all this, it is going to rival against prominent 7-seater players such as Kia Sorento, Nissan X-Trail and Land Rover Discovery Sport.

The CR-V is said to share the chassis layout with the new Civic hatchback, which is set to arrive in dealerships by early 2017. According to sources, the wheelbase of the new CR-V will be around 80mm longer than the existing model. The overall length of the SUV is likely to get stretched by up to 50 mm. Dimensionally., it would give a close competition to the X-Trial.
As per the sales chart, the CR-V has been the best selling SUV previous year. Last year, the carmaker successfully sold around 3,45,000 units. The company aims that after giving the model some mild exterior and interior tuning, it would be able to sell around 20,000 units on annual basis.

The spyshots reveal that the frond Solid wing face grille gives the car a bold figure. It gets a narrower LED headlamps followed by L-shaped taillights on the rear side. As far as the power mill is concerned, Honda has already confirmed new 1.0-litre three-cylinder and 1.5 i-VTEC turbos, an updated 1.6-litre diesel for the Civic, and the CR-V will be seen housing the similar engine.

There could be a possibility of CR-V housing a revised version of the 2.0-litre gasoline engine based on Honda’s technology. The engine could be mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox along with 4WD configuration as optional. However, the base variants shall be available with front wheel drive configuration, paired to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The new Honda CR-V will be manufactured in its domestic country i.e Japan. Also, the US launch is expected too held by the end of 2017.
