The German luxury car maker is gearing up to introduce the all new BMW seventh-generation 5-series cars and from the recent spy shots, it seems that the cars are at final stage of design and development. Recently, the camouflaged test mule of G31 Touring from the next-gen 5-series has been spotted testing and looks ready to enter production.
Besides ultimate design and luxurious comfort, the all new 5-series will come with the first of its kind, Remote 3D View feature which enables the owner to digitally monitor the car even when he/she is nowhere nearby it. If you have ever noticed in movies, the 007 (James Bond) cars’ features such technology. And now BMW gives you this chance first ever.
Back to the recent spy shots, although, the car is well-hidden behind the stickers, but the long shape and muscular design of the car will surely grab your attention. Some rumours say, this next generation 5-series Touring estate could be showcased at the Paris Motor Show which will begin from this September 28.
But this is not the car maker’s way to unveil the new series, if the company follows the paradigm of the F10/F11/F07, the new GT will be the first next-gen 5-series car to be rolled out, followed by the Sedan in the first half of next year and then Touring by the end of 2017.
Well, on the car structure, it will be based on the similar modular platform which also underpins the 7-series. This new platform makes use of lightweight materials like carbon fiber reinforced plastics which help the car reducing its kerb weight by 100kg over the current generation.
On the engine front, the Touring estate could be mirrored to the Saloon version, which offers a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder B47 diesel and B48 petrol engine, a 3.0-litre in-line 6-cylinder turbocharge B57 diesel and B58 petrol engine, and an updated 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine.
