Next-Gen Mercedes-Benz SL to be Tweaked by AMG

It’s been almost six decades now when the Mercedes SL Class initially started its services in the auto segment and within this period, it has gone through so many ups and down. And now, it is in its eighth generation. Undoubtedly, as the time changes, some real modifications are required to be done. Hence, the automaker did the same thing and made up its mind to engineer the Mercedes-Benz SL under the AMG performance car division.

According to Autocar, the responsibilities for developing the latest model have been delivered to AMG to make it stand out from the crowd. “It is being kept secret at the moment, but AMG is heading the engineering of the new SL,” an inside person  said to Autocar. He also added, “It’s going to be a  vastly different proposition to today’s model.”

If the media reports are to be believed, the upcoming model is going to use a brand new platform that christened as Modularen Sportwagen Architektur (MSA). Besides, the architecture can also be brought out in the next generation SLC. Moreover, a multi-layer fabric roof could be seen instead of the regular aluminium one.

In terms of the powertrains, it will get an exclusive turbocharged 3.0-litre, six-cylinder in-line engine and generate different states of tunes - 365 Bhp for the SL 300 and 435 Bhp for SL400. What’s more is AMG’s 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 engine, which is also available with two different power, will uphold its position under the hood of SL500 and SL63. Anticipations are also there for a 6.0-litre V12 top-ranging engine, which currently powers the SL65.
