As per the latest reports, it confirms that the development will be a major cause of the dismal electric vehicle segment in India.
A top executive at the Indian unit of the Japanese automaker said, “The Japanese car manufacturing company is investigating to work with “government bodies” and “private sector firms” to evaluate that there is a market for EV's in India.
President of Nissan India, Guillaume Sicard said that, “the car manufacturer plans to run a pilot project which involves the Nissan Leaf Electric car later this year, which will help in evaluating the viability of electric cars or vehicles in India.” Leaf is one of the best-selling electric vehicles across the globe. People who are familiar with the project have expressed to test the performance of the electric car on Indian roads and weather conditions (mainly over the battery of the car), A pressing concern for Nissan is the deterioration of the Leaf's lithium-ion batteries, given the temperature soars up in most parts of India during summers.
The local assembly of Nissan Leaf electric car is not instantly available in the pipeline. The Japanese automaker might seek payments from the Indian government for the promotion of car in India. Nissan Leaf will eligible for the (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid & Electric Vehicles). The electric car will be transported through Completely Built Unit (CBU) and that should keep things at a premium. If all the formalities of the government successfully completed in India, we would have electric fleet by 2030.
The Indian Government is looking to lure the attention of car makers like Tesla along with an offer of land near a major port which provides logistical advantage to the exporters. Tesla is also planning to bring its Model 3 to India this summer. Tesla comes in the Indian market as per the Indian Government's offer, whereas Nissan might find some advantage in working with the Government.
