No Go-Fast Version for New Maruti Suzuki Dzire

The new Maruti Suzuki Dzire will not be offered in RS avatar with a 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine in its lifecycle, a report on AutoCar India stated. This is the same engine setup which is currently available in Baleno RS.

The Indo-Japanese carmaker recently launched the much awaited car of the year, 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire in the Indian market. Since the new Dzire is based on the same platform that also underpins the carmaker’s one of the premium offerings, Baleno hatchback, it was speculated that Maruti will bring a performance-focused version of the compact sedan as well. According to the auto giant, customers are more intended to have a sporty driving experience in hatchbacks, instead of the sedans.

Maruti Suzuki’s first petrol turbocharged motor, 102hp, 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine was introduced in Baleno RS - the go-fast version of Baleno hatchback in India. Launching performance oriented versions by adding turbochargers is still new to the brand and this theory is doing well for the Maruti Suzuki. The carmaker is selling 800 to 1000 units of the Baleno RS per month, which is a satisfying number for Maruti so far.

While the newly launched Dzire is launched with the same existing engine lineup with a choice of 5-speed manual or ASG (Auto Gear Shift) transmission. The petrol setup consists a 1.2-litre K-Series 4-cylinder VVT motor that revs a maximum power of 83 PS and a peak torque of 113 Nm. While on the other hand, diesel motor includes 1.3-litre 4-cylinder DDiS turbo-diesel mill which churns out a maximum power of 75 PS along with the maximum torque of 190 Nm.

The manual and automatic petrol versions return a fuel economy of 22.0 kmpl, whereas the manual and automatic diesel versions deliver 28.4 kmpl. Price for the petrol version starts at INR 5.45 Lakh, while the diesel version available at INR 6.45 Lakh.

The new Dzire, however, may not get an RS version, but we can expect the same BoosterJet engine for the upcoming next-gen Swift hatch which is likely to hit the showroom floors in India next year.
