The high-profile cruiser bikes manufacturer in India, Royal Enfield has recently announced that some of its existing models will receive a larger capacity engine.
In a meet with Motorcycle Magazine, Mr. Siddhartha Lal, CEO and Managing Director, Royal Enfield, has revealed that the adventure bike RE Himalayan will get a heavy duty engine and is currently under work.
He further added that the company has picked several models from the lineup and will make them larger capacity models, which are not going to made owing to international demand but primarily for the Indian market.

In response to reporter's question about higher capacity models, Mr Lal answered, “we have selected which models we will be making bigger and more powerful versions of than we have today, and the Himalayan is one of those – but because our Indian customer says so, not anyone overseas. However, I recognise of course that this is a benefit for or export sales, and as we get close to meeting demand in India for our products, then we must start to lift our sales overseas. In the next five-year horizon, we intend Royal Enfield should be No.1 in global sales in the middleweight segment.”
While completing its statement, Mr Lal also confirmed that they will not produce engines beyond the 750 cc displacement.
Lately, the Royal Enfield Himalayan gets propelling power from the Long Stroke 411 cc single cylinder engine that is capable of generating 24.5 bhp of power and 32 Nm of torque through the mated 6-speed gearbox. For the riders who get upgraded from a 150cc motorcycle, it’s a big jump, but the enthusiast demands for more grunt.
In terms of sale, Royal Enfield disposed over 6 lakh motorcycles every year and out of which, the 500 cc models are 10 percent of the sales.
