Suzuki Introduces Ignis in the UK; India-Launch in Early Next Year

Slated to be launched in India first half of next year, the compact crossover, Maruti Suzuki Ignis is now available in the European market. It is the second country after Japan which is going to enjoy the presence of this model followed by Australia and India in next year. The minimum price has been decided for the European-based model is £9,999, which is equal to around INR 8.67 Lakh for the entry level variant and goes up to £17,995 (INR 15.6 Lakh) for the high-end variant. Engine:-

The European-spec Ignis has got a 1.2-litre, four cylinder, K12C DualJet petrol engine that is tuned to belt out a power of 90 PS along with a torque of 118 Nm and features the company’s SHVS mild hybrid system, but for selected variants. Besides, a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic transmission option are also there. What’s most interesting factor is that buyers can also choose the company’s ALLGRIP four-wheel drive facility, however, it is only offered on the SZ5 trim.



As some reports suggest, the India-bound Maruti Suzuki Ignis will breathe via a 1.2-litre VTVT petrol engine and a multijet diesel engine. Both the motors will be supported by a 5-Speed manual transmission for dispatching the power at wheels. Whereas, Maruti Suzuki’s AGS (Auto Gear Shift) transmission unit could also be introduced later for the petrol derivative.

Design and Dimensions:-

First released in 2015 at the Tokyo Motor Show, the Ignis was also brought at the 2016 Auto Expo where it turns the head of many audiences thanks to its an impressive shape of the compact body design highlighted by the distinctive front fascia. Moreover, it is based on the same platform that is underpinning the  most-in-demand hatchback nowadays, Baleno. Further, the compact body design comes sporting the strong lines of the smartly-designed grille, flared wheel arches and projector headlights covered by LED daytime running lights. 



It also drags the slit-like C Pillar design cues from the first-generation Cervo as well as the distinctive 'A' and 'B' pillar design, inspired by Swift. The rear profile of the Ignis house well-sculpted hatch door, a large windshield, and plastic cladding over the bumper. Dimensionally, it measures 3,700 mm in length, 1,660 mm in width, 1,595 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,438 mm. The ground clearance of the units stands at 180mm.

Despite having the similar platform that of the Baleno, the compact crossover Suzuki Ignis is lighter in weight and  stands at 810 kg, thanks to lightweight structures. With information available, it is slightly longer of 10-15 cm than its Japanese equivalent and that is added in order to revise the bumper design.

Features:-

Dubbed as a compact crossover, the Ignis features a cabin with comfort legroom space and enough spacious boot lid of 267 litres. In terms of the features, the SZ3, an entry level unit, gets standard equipment like six airbags, DAB radio with Bluetooth, air conditioning, 15-inch alloy wheels, front electric windows, body-coloured door mirrors and room for five occupants. The higher-spec trim SZ-T comes loaded with features like 16-inch alloy wheels, rearview camera, roof rails, wheel arch extensions and room for four people with individually rear sliding seats.



When it comes to a top-end variant, the SZ5, the carmaker has offered some additional features like Dual Camera Brake Support, climate control, rear electric windows, keyless entry and start and LED headlights along with front fog lamps.

Color:-



Maruti Suzuki Ignis comes available in one solid colour exterior option and five optional metallic colours as well as five two-tone colours are also there albeit the roof colour is same on all i.e. Super Pearl Black Metallic.

India-bound Ignis:-



Ever since the India-based Maruti Suzuki Ignis came at the 2016 Auto Expo, it’s been a burning topic among the audiences. After the great success of Baleno hatchback and S-cross crossover, which is currently being sold under the Nexa dealership, the new sibling is also going to be dispatched from the same facility. As far as the specification of the India-bound Ignis is concerned, it would be more or less similar to the globally based unit except for powerhouse, which we have mentioned above and some other equipment. There yet to be revealed about the India-spec unit, but it could be priced between INR 6.5 Lakh to INR 9.5 Lakh (Ex-showroom) and will take on the likes of Hyundai i20 Active and Mahindra KUV 100, which is recently launched in the Indian car place.
