After disclosing the exterior of Harrier in October, Tata Motors has now given a peek of the internals showing the shadowy teaser of its hotly-anticipated SUV which reveals the design of the model’s dashboard.
Not disclosing much, the teaser confirms the key design of the Harrier’s dash- floating 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system taking centre stage. As per the new spy image, the internal will contain a dual-tone grey-and-brown colour scheme, and with the minimum number of buttons on the centre console. The three-spoke steering wheel has leather wrapping around it with a silver lining across the band and on the AC vents.
The harrier’s infotainment screen will be taken from the Visteon – which happens to be the manufacturer of digital consoles of Range Rover Velar too. Android Auto, MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay, the reverse camera and in addition to doubling up as the display for satellite navigation. As per the sources, the main reason for switching the Harman-supplied infotainment to a Visteon system is due to the faster interface and smoother operating. Just like other Tata Models- Tiago, Tigor and Nexon, the Harrier’s sound system will also come from Harman. Same like Hexa, the top variant will come with subwoofer setup.
For building-up the launch, Tata Motors has dropped many teasers and said that on the hardest of grounds, the SUV has been tested for 2.2 million kilometres and its powertrain has been named ‘Kryotec’. The ‘Kryotec’ name has been taken from the cryogenic rocket engine which is known for its reliability and power. As per the reports, there will be a Fiat’s four-cylinder Multijet II diesel engine powering the Harrier.
Harrier will contain two gearbox options – a 6-speed manual and a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed automatic. The launch of the automatic gearbox will be in the BS-VI version of the SUV which will be launched along with the Harrier’s 7-seat variant. Tata Motors has predicted that there will be huge demand for the automatic and chose to delay the bringing of the model instead than struggling to deliver the car on time.
