Some recent market reports suggest that Tata is working on a flagship model, which has been codenamed Q501/Q502. As per the latest information available, the new model will be launched in the market by 2018. It is not disclosed yet, but it can share the platform with its other popular subsidiary model, the Land Rover Discovery.
Based on the similar chassis and components, the flagship model will be assembled at the company's research and development plant in Pune. This action might help the company to sell this car with an attractive price tag. Besides, reports have also suggested that apart from the basic structure, nothing will be similar to the already existing Land Rover Discovery Sport and it will have a unique identity.
Under the hood, it will get propelled by the Fiat-sourced MultiJet II engine that is going to be borrowed from another automaker Jeep with its upcoming C-SUV later this year. The unit in question here is an all new 2.0-litre diesel motor to push out a power of 170 Bhp. To perform transmission duty, the trim can be mated with either a six-speed manual or an automatic gearbox.
When launched, it will be slotted above the Hexa crossover, which was revealed in just about a month ago at 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. It looks like the brand has been planning to flood the Indian car market with SUV option that is highly appreciated in the country. Well, Tata Hexa is also said to be launched in just a couple of months and will possibly stand as the company hopes it to be.
